Open the Bottle - Old Fitzgerald 8 Year Bottled in Bond Decanter

This is a bottle I've dreamed about for years and it's also another story about relationships working out when allocated whiskey is involved as I purchased this at retail. In my mind, there are two paths back to Pappy Van Winkle himself. The Weller line now produced by Buffalo Trace, guided by the Van Winkle family and Old Fitzgerald from Heaven Hill. I have no idea how the whiskey sold by Pappy actually tasted so I don't know which line is more true to that era but I do know that I love wheated bourbon from both distilleries and, perhaps more importantly, I know that both are very different whiskies. Which do I prefer? Well, before this bottle, I'd say the Weller line was tastier to me than the available Larceny expressions. I've never had any of the Parker's Heritage wheated releases, that's all I had to go on but this Old Fitz, well it's just delicious and could well change my mind. We'll have to live with it for a while to decide for sure but really, who cares. Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill do a wonderful job with whiskey so I'll be happy drinking either whenever I can. Cheers!
