Open the Bottle - Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Bourbon Bottled In Bond Store Pick from Hazel's Beverage World in Boulder, CO

Store picks are fun and they are especially exciting when the pick is a brand or bottle that has become difficult to find on shelves. That is the case with this EH Taylor Single Barrel. I used to buy the EHT small batch for $35 all the time and nearly as often, would buy the regular single barrels for $55 or $60 but those days are gone for now. When they do surface, both are bringing more than doubled those prices, and frankly, they just aren't worth that to me. I really enjoy EH Taylor whiskey but my enjoyment ends around those historic prices and not much beyond. So why then did I spend $80 on this bottle? Well, I love the idea of private barrel picks. In fact, one of my bucket list items is to be part of a pick at a big distillery. Lenny Eckstein from Deerhammer made that dream come true on a small scale when we visited his distillery and he let us sample barrels and choose a bottle of our own. That was an amazing experience and I want more. Mostly, I appreciate the expense and effort stores go to in order to buy an entire barrel and put it out for sale so I want to support that even if I end up paying more for a bottle I'd otherwise pass on at the price.

It's not like this isn't tasty whiskey so I'm not really suffering all that much. Cheers!
