Friday Sips Live: October 21, 2022 - Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 1 backup bottle. Shall we open it?

I mentioned last week that my last bottle of Kentucky Owl Batch 1 Rye has reached a mythic place in my mind and become the only bottle I am not willing to open. It was, when I sipped the last bit of the first bottle, the best whiskey of any style I'd ever had. That was a few years ago so I wonder, is it as good as I remember?

Combined with the idea that I want to reduce the number of bottles, I did a little rearranging to turn a few other bottles I had into another KO Rye so now I have two. Why should that matter? I have no idea but it does. I paid $120 for my first two bottles back in late 2018 and still one of those is what I've been hanging on to. I also had a Batch 2 that was very good but not at the level of Batch 1. Batch 1 now fetches around $300 but if it's as good as I remember, that may seem fair. Also, I really get annoyed with the 'batch' thing. It gets applied to releases that aren't done in batches and for some reason that grates on my nerves.

But, here we are. I now have two of these bottles. Let's find out if it's as good as I remember. Dan is gone again this week but during his travels, he got to taste some Kentucky Owl Batch 1 Rye and found it to be amazing. My plan was to open this bottle with him but he didn't seem to mind drinking without me so it's on him I suppose.

Cheers!

On a non-whiskey note. You probably know that we also produce some excellent bicycle content. Slow Guy on the Fast Ride is focused on road and gravel cycling. Dan hosts a podcast and we put out a fair amount of gear-focused content. Our Lemme See That Videos are a hoot and valuable and we also do longer-form, written, and video reviews of road and gravel cycling gear. We also just launched Dawn Patrol MTB which is focused on mountain bikes as the name suggests.

At the moment, it's just me and Dan cranking it out, and when we can with our limited resources, we pull in freelance writers. We really want to provide diverse insight into cycling but we don't want to ask others to work for free (like we do so far) so we're asking for your support (beyond watching us, which we so greatly appreciate). If you can donate at this link - https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8MVZoPyBDX - we'll use all proceeds to pay talented freelance writers from backgrounds different from our own, to produce bike content that we know will appeal to a wide audience. Of course, whenever possible, we'll pour them a tipple of tasty whiskey too. Anyone who donates $75 or more will receive some goodies, not limited to a Slow Guy t-shirt, stickers, and probably more. Thank you for all you do to support the Practical Still and me and Dan.

Cheers!
